Michael Franti is a Musician and Hotelier in the music, hospitality, and wellness industries, best known for his global touring career and for founding Soulshine Bali in Bali, Indonesia. With over four decades in music and a deep commitment to philanthropy through his nonprofit Do It For The Love, Franti blends artistry, entrepreneurship, and purpose-driven leadership.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m a musician, hotelier, husband, father, and philanthropist. I’ve been performing music and traveling the world for over 40 years, and in 2010, I opened Soulshine Bali, a resort and retreat space built around music, wellness, and community. My wife, Sara, and I also run a nonprofit called Do It For The Love, which brings people facing life-threatening illnesses, those with special needs, and wounded veterans to live concerts. Everything I do is rooted in helping people find joy, especially during challenging times.
How would you describe your personal or professional vibe in 3 words?
Optimistic, authentic, and energetic. I believe positivity is powerful, especially when life gets hard. I try to show up as my full, imperfect self, and I bring high energy into my music, business, and family life every day.
What’s one fun fact about you most people don’t know?
I love flying kites with my son Taj. It’s one of my favorite ways to unplug and just be present.
What’s your favorite TV show right now?
I don’t watch a ton of TV because I’m usually writing music or traveling, but I love watching sports (especially basketball) whenever I get the chance.
What’s your most-used social media app these days?
Instagram. It’s where I connect most directly with fans and share music, travel, and wellness moments.

Facebook. That was the first platform where I really started engaging with fans online.

I love following people who focus on wellness, mindset, and positivity — folks who inspire people to live with intention and heart. I’m always drawn to creators who use their platforms to uplift others.
Are there any must-follow accounts or pages for people in your industry?
For musicians and creatives, I think it’s important to follow artists who are building community around their work, not just promoting it. And in hospitality and wellness, I’m inspired by brands that create meaningful experiences, not just beautiful spaces.

Yes, I listen to podcasts around creativity, entrepreneurship, and personal growth. I’m always interested in hearing how other artists and founders navigate challenges and stay inspired.
What’s the best advice you’ve heard from a podcast or interview?
“Focus on service, not success.” When you focus on how you can serve people, success becomes a byproduct.

I’d love to collaborate with someone who bridges music and purpose — an artist who’s committed to social impact and creating positive change through their platform.
What’s a habit, hack, or tool you swear by for staying informed or inspired?
Daily songwriting. Even if nothing comes from it, showing up to create every single day keeps me inspired and grounded. I also prioritize movement — basketball, yoga, weight training — because a clear body helps create a clear mind.
