Minnesota Roots and a Client-First Mindset: An Interview With Travis Braulick

Travis Braulick is a Financial Advisor and Vice President of Investment and Insurance Services with Calton & Associates, working in the financial services industry in New Ulm, Minnesota. With over 11 years of industry experience and a history of top performance, he brings a grounded, client-focused approach shaped by his small-town Minnesota roots.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?

I’m a financial advisor and VP of Investment and Insurance Services at Calton & Associates. I’ve been in the financial industry since 2014, starting from the ground up at Bankers Life and eventually becoming a top 25 producer for several years. My work today centers on helping clients make informed decisions and being there when they have questions or concerns. I take a lot of pride in being accessible. As I always tell clients, “I’m only a phone call away—and I mean that.”

How would you describe your personal or professional vibe in 3 words?

Hardworking, dependable, and loyal. Hardworking because nothing in my career came easy; I earned every milestone through effort and discipline. Dependable because my clients count on me, and I make it a point to always answer the phone, even outside business hours. Loyal because family, friends, and clients have supported me through the years, and I don’t take that for granted.

What’s one fun fact about you most people don’t know?

A lot of people know I enjoy hunting, but not many know that deer hunting has been a family tradition since I was a kid in Sleepy Eye. I had my first successful hunt with my brother Riley, and it’s still something we do together. It’s one of the few activities that forces me to slow down and enjoy the moment.

What’s your favorite TV show right now?

I watch a ton of Minnesota sports, so during football season, you’ll usually find me watching the Minnesota Gophers or Vikings. I also follow Gophers hockey and basketball pretty closely. My TV is basically locked on whatever Minnesota team is in season.

What’s your most-used social media app these days?

Definitely Facebook. It keeps me connected to the Sleepy Eye community, former teammates, clients, and local sports pages. I follow updates from the Sleepy Eye United High School football program, which I support, so it’s an easy way to stay in touch with what’s happening back home.

What was the first social media app you ever joined?

MySpace. I remember spending way too much time picking the right song for my profile and rearranging my Top 8. It feels ancient now, but at the time, it was the best way to stay in touch with friends from school and sports.

Are there any influencers or creators you never miss content from?

I don’t follow typical influencers, but I regularly follow financial speakers and business leaders who focus on discipline, goal-setting, and personal development. I like people who share practical ideas I can bring into my daily work. It helps me stay sharp for my clients.

Are there any must-follow accounts or pages for people in your industry?

Pages that talk about market trends, long-term strategy, and leadership habits are the most valuable to me. Anything that encourages you to think differently or challenge your usual routine is worth following. I’m always looking for ideas I can bring back to my clients or team.

Do you listen to any podcasts related to your field or niche?

Yes, I listen to a variety of business and financial podcasts. I like hearing how other advisors approach challenges or build their practices. I also attend wealth conferences every year. They always give me fresh ideas, and I enjoy learning new strategies that I can bring home to Minnesota.

What’s the best advice you’ve heard from a podcast or interview?

Someone once said, “Set goals you can measure, then commit to them every day.” That stuck with me because it’s exactly how I’ve built my career. I set weekly, monthly, and yearly goals—even small ones—and crossing them off keeps me disciplined and moving forward.

If you could collab with any influencer or celeb, who would it be?

Probably someone in Minnesota sports. Working with a Vikings or Gophers player would be a fun way to combine my career with something I love. I’ve followed those teams since I was a kid, so it would be pretty surreal.

What’s a habit, hack, or tool you swear by for staying informed or inspired?

Continuous learning. Whether it’s attending conferences, taking new courses, or listening to industry speakers, I don’t let myself get comfortable. The market changes, people’s needs change, and I believe advisors should keep learning so they can keep improving.
