Aaron Keay’s story begins in North Delta, a quiet suburb just outside Vancouver, where the love of sport wasn’t just a hobby…it was a way of life. Growing up, Aaron was the kid who couldn’t sit still. He played everything he could, from basketball to soccer, eventually representing British Columbia in both sports and later earning a spot on Canada’s national soccer teams. His talent took him to Europe and back, playing professionally for the Vancouver 86ers and Vancouver Whitecaps — all while completing his Business and Human Kinetics degree at the University of British Columbia, where he was named CIAU Student-Athlete of the Year in 1997.
But sport was just the first act. After his athletic career, Aaron traded the locker room for the boardroom, diving into fitness and corporate finance. He became known for spotting emerging trends early, from his role in helping launch OrganiGram, one of Canada’s first publicly listed cannabis companies, to investing in consumer products, wellness, and technology through his family office, Klutch Financial. Today, he sits on the advisory board of RX3 Growth Partners, a fund co-founded by NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and continues to back businesses that mix innovation with purpose.
Aaron’s newest passion is Kommunity Fitness, a boutique group training concept in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. Kommunity blends high-end design, immersive video-led workouts, and connection — the kind of place where people come to train hard and feel part of something bigger. His journey from pro athlete to entrepreneur shows one constant thread: the drive to build, inspire, and lead. When he’s not in the gym, Aaron’s likely on the golf course, cycling through Palm Desert, or planning his next Hyrox competition. He calls it balance. Others might call it momentum in motion.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m an entrepreneur and former professional athlete who now focuses on building and investing in businesses that improve people’s lives. I founded Kommunity Fitness, which just opened its first location in Kitsilano, and I also manage my family office, Klutch Financial. I’ve spent the last decade working across consumer products, wellness, and technology. At this stage of my career, I’m passionate about creating brands that make a real impact — ones that inspire people to feel better, move more, and stay connected.
How would you describe your personal or professional vibe in 3 words?
Driven. Curious. Grounded. I’ve always had a competitive streak, but I try to balance that intensity with curiosity and humility. Whether in sport or business, I’ve learned that listening and learning matter just as much as leading. And grounded because no matter how far you go, you need to remember where you came from.
What’s one fun fact about you most people don’t know?
Most people don’t know that I used to compete in professional poker tournaments. Back in 2008, I finished in the top 50 in the world rankings, which still makes me laugh when I think about it. Poker taught me a lot about patience and reading people, lessons that come in handy in business every day.
What’s your favorite TV show right now?
I’m watching Welcome to Wrexham. I love how it shows the behind-the-scenes grit of building something meaningful. In this case, a football club with heart. It reminds me of my days playing professionally, but also of how communities form around a shared mission. Plus, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney make it entertaining.
What’s your most-used social media app these days?
Probably Instagram. I use it to stay connected with friends, keep up with wellness trends, and follow what’s happening in the fitness and business world. It’s also where we share updates about Kommunity Fitness. Seeing members' posts about their workouts never gets old.

What was the first social media app you ever joined?
Facebook, back in the early 2000s. I remember when it was still a novelty — we’d post photos from training camps or team trips. It’s funny to think how much it’s changed since then. Now, everything’s visual and fast-paced.
Are there any influencers or creators you never miss content from?
I follow people who live what they teach. Guys like David Goggins and Mark Wahlberg come to mind. Both are intense but real. I also like following entrepreneurs like Gary Vaynerchuk because he talks about mindset and execution, which always keeps me motivated.
Are there any must-follow accounts or pages for people in your industry?
For anyone in fitness and wellness, I’d recommend following Functional Patterns, WHOOP, and Men’s Health Lab. They all share science-backed insights and real training knowledge, not just trends. For entrepreneurship, HBR IdeaCast and Fast Company always post something worth reading.
Do you listen to any podcasts related to your field or niche?
Yes, a few. The Ed Mylett Show is a big one for me. He gets into the mindset behind success, not just the tactics. I also like The Tim Ferriss Show for the variety of guests, from athletes to founders. And The Huberman Lab for the science behind performance and recovery.
What’s the best advice you’ve heard from a podcast or interview?
From Ed Mylett: “You’re most powerful when you’re consistent.” That one stuck. It’s the same in sports. Talent gets you started, but consistency keeps you in the game. Whether training, parenting, or running a business, showing up every day matters more than doing something perfectly once.
If you could collab with any influencer or celeb, who would it be?
Mark Wahlberg, hands down. He’s built a lifestyle brand that’s equal parts faith, family, and fitness; values that align closely with mine. Collaborating on something that combines those pillars would be incredible. Plus, his work ethic is unreal.
What’s a habit, hack, or tool you swear by for staying informed or inspired?
Reading early in the morning before checking emails. It’s simple, but it sets the tone for my day. I usually start with The Wall Street Journal or Business Insider, then something on wellness or performance. Lately, I’ve also been using the Headway app for short summaries of business books. It’s a great way to stay sharp when things get busy.
