Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Still
The movie narrates the story of Prem (obviously Ranbir) who leads a simple life and runs a HAPPY CLUB. His motto is to be happy and make others happy. He falls for Jenny (Katrina Kaif) at the first sight when he almost mistakenly attempts to kidnap her. He later realizes that Jenny is in love with other guy (Upen Patel). So, he decides to sacrifice his love and unite the lovers together.
The director makes it very clear from the beginning that his new venture rides on funny illogical situations. So, please do not apply your brains here. Right from the sequence Ranbir falls for Katrina, the movie transports you into a roller coaster ride. Though at the core it is a love story yet the director has very efficiently given a light humorous touch to the execution of the plot. The movie boasts of several sequences that succeed in tickling your funny bone: Ranbir’s introductory sequence, Ranbir meeting Katrina for the first time, Ranbir’s love-hate relationship with his father Darshan Jariwala, his sequences with Katrina at the party, Ranbir helping Katrina to elope from her forced marriage, Salman Khan’s guest appearance, Ranbir wearing Katrina’s top towards the end to mask her presence in his house, etc. The movie is thoroughly entertaining, especially the first half. Though the movie slows down a bit in the second half and succumbs to predictable stuff but it gains momentum as the second half proceeds further. In all, Santoshi crafts the rom-com genre very well with his latest offering proving that he can tackle such subjects with finesse just like he did it in his cult and classic comedy Andaz Apna Apna
.Now, lets move on to the performances. There is no iota of doubt in the fact that Ranbir Kapoor is the star of the show. He besieges you with his charming screen presence. He enacts each and every sequence with so much spontaneity that you are enamored by his antics in the movie. Be it the humorous or emotional scenes, his expressions are simply perfect and flawless. After proving his mettle in Wake Up Sid, this movie will further cement his status in the industry and elevate him to super-stardom. Mark my words, he is going to take the industry by storm in the near future. Watch out for him in his upcoming flicks: ROCKET SINGH SALESMAN OF THE YEAR (releasing on 11 December 2009) and RAJNEETI (releasing in early 2010).
Katrina Kaif looks extremely beautiful and cute as usual. She has improved a lot in her acting skills. She acts her role quite well bringing the right kind of innocence as desired in her character. She springs a surprise in her performance. Also, Ranbir-Katrina share an electrifying on-screen chemistry and look very good together. Hope they do more movies together in the future.
As for the character artists goes, Darshan Jariwala is simply perfect. Smita Jaykar as Ranbir’s mother delivers a very good act. Upen Patel is satisfactory. Govind Namdeo is just okay. People who acted as Ranbir’s friends pitch in a decent performance. The cinematography is perfect. The musical score by Pritam is already topping the charts and songs are quite well incorporated into the story.
On the whole, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
fulfills the expectations of a thorough paisa-vasool entertainer. The huge publicity coupled with the sizzling chemistry between Ranbir and Katrina and hit music by Pritam definitely ensures a big start at the box office. As going by the positive reports pouring in and bumper opening at the ticket window, the movie is sure to create ripples in the days to come. This ghazab kahani is a must watch for the family, children, youth and above all the people in love! Go for it. Don’t miss it.Rating: **** (4/5)
