Already a household name in South, Asin debuted in Bollywood with ‘Ghajini’ opposite Aamir Khan, which became the biggest money spinner of 2008. Her role in the film was received very well by audiences and film critics alike, winning her the Filmfare Best Hindi Debut Award.

Asin’s first break was with Malyalam film, ‘Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’ in 2007. Her first commercial success, however, was ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammay’ in 2003 which won her a Filmfare award for Best Telugu actress. Asin won her next south Filmfare award for Best actress in her second Tamil film, ‘Ghajini’ in 2005.
